Research Grants and fellowship schemes: Declared by UGC on Teachers’s day 2022

The University Grant Commission (UGC)  recently released various research grants and fellowship schemes on this Teachers’ Day 2022. These schemes were announced  during a launch event scheduled to begin at 3 pm through a Livestream on the UGC’s official Twitter account. The commission has announced 3 grants and 2 fellowship programs.  According to the UGC statement, 3  research grants for faculty members and in-service teachers will be offered. There are 100 spots available for this fellowship, and those who are selected will get a contingency stipend of Rs 50,000 P.M. and Rs 50,000 P.A.

Fellowship for faculty members

This program is specifically designed to give retired faculty members access to research opportunities after they retire. This fellowship will be for a three-year or a maximum of 70 years.  There will be 100 slots available in total, and the selected applicants will receive Rs 50,000 P.M. as part of this fellowship. Additionally, an annual payment of Rs 50,000 will be paid. 

Eligibility for fellowship of faculty members

  • Age must be less than 67 years.
  • Must supervised PhD dissertations of at least 10 full-time candidates, three of whom have received their degrees during the preceding 10 years.
  • Must have handled, as Principal Investigator, at least three sponsored research projects funded by national/international agencies.
  • Should not hold any administrative responsibility during the duration of the fellowship from the date of superannuation

Grant for In-Service Faculty Members

Under this programme, 200 individuals will each receive Rs 10 lakh over the course of two years. This fellowship aims to offer the opportunity of research to regularly appointed faculty members or those who are already in service. 

Eligibility for research grant for In-Service faculty members

  • The maximum age for interested candidates is 50, and they must have at least 10 years of service remaining at the institution/university as of the application deadline.
  • The candidate should have completed at least two sponsored research projects funded by national/international government or private entities and successfully supervised the PhD dissertation of five full-time candidates.

Dr D.S. Kothari Research Grant for Newly Recruited Faculty Members

This research programme benefits new hires by giving regularly appointed faculty members to access to research opportunities. 132 chosen students will receive assistance total of Rs 10 lakh over the course of two years.

Eligibility for Dr D.S. Kothari Research grant

  • The candidates must have recently been appointed as Assistant Professors against permanent positions
  • Hold PhD degrees
  • Must have 5 published research papers
  • Must submit their applications within two years of their starting date.

Dr. Radhakrishnan UGC Post-Doctoral Fellowship

The fellowship includes a monthly payment of Rs 50,000 and an annual contingency payment of Rs 50,000 to the selected students. The purpose of this fellowship is to give applicants the chance to pursue advanced study and research in the humanities, social sciences, engineering, and the sciences, including languages offered by Indian colleges and organizations. This fellowship reportedly offers 900 slots, 30% of which have been set aside for female candidates. 

Eligibility for Dr. Radhakrishnan UGC Post-Doctoral Fellowship

  • Candidates applying for this scholarship must not be currently working Having PhD degree.
  • They must be first-time applicants for a UGC post-doctoral fellowship.
  • They must have at least 55% of their postgraduate marks.  
  • 5% marks relaxation will be provided to the reserved categories and transgender applicants.
  • For the general category, candidates must be under 35 years of age
  • Reserved/women/transgender categories must be below 40 years.

Savitribai Jyotirao Phule fellowship for single girl child

This scholarship is intended to support a single girl child and encourage her to engage in research that will lead to the award of a PhD. The program has  a total 5-year duration with no fixed limit of slots.

Eligibility for Savitribai Jyotirao Phule fellowship

She must be a single girl child
Pursuing PhD in any stream from any recognised university, college or institution, registered in a regular, full-time PhD programme.
Age should be below 40 years in the unreserved (UR) category and below 45 years for reserved categories.
